5 sparkly ways to get organised for 2018

It’s quite rare to get a personalised handwritten invitation these days. Most invites come via email or social media. But there’s something quite special about a pretty coloured envelope dropping on your doormat just waiting for you to tear open and reveal the contents. Especially when it involves getting organised for 2018

When the gold embossed invitation arrived to join Busy B for their first press & bloggers evening  – it was a no brainer. Well I say that …. I thought about it for about 5 minutes. Edinburgh’s only 300 miles away. It will only take 5 hours to get there. Mr Bond was keen, so we’ll make a weekend of it, do a bit of sightseeing and perhaps a spot of festive shopping.

Let me tell you it’s jolly cold in Scotland in November.

The journey was joyous. Blue skies, bright sun, beautiful scenery and the prospect of a weekend away. Oh, and did I mention they asked me to make cupcakes. They travelled well  – strapped into their seat belt and landed safely and fully intact!

We arrived at The Glasshouse, one of Edinburgh’s premier hotels and event venues, right in the centre of the city by taxi from our Air B&B apartment.  We were quickly whizzed up to the Calton Suite, a magical glass walled space on the beautiful rooftop terrace.

The little elves of Busy B had been working hard all afternoon to create the perfect winter grotto.

The stairway lined with flickering candles and the windows draped in pretty fairy lights. The room quickly filled up with bloggers, influencers and press from the local area, and further afield. We chatted over a glass of prosecco and some very tasty canapes.

It was lovely to meet both staff members who I knew from email conversations and other brand ambassadors too.  All of us a little bit in love with Busy B.

I thought I’d give you a little tour of the Busy B grotto, share some sparkles and tell you why their products are so awesome.

Day a Page Diary

Nobody does diaries like Busy B. They’re beautifully designed by the clever team in Edinburgh and full of really useful features. They’re really attractive – so much so that it’s hard to choose, and there’s a great range of diary layouts to suit everyone. After much deliberation I chose the Family Diary purely based on layout. Honestly they’re all gorgeous so you can’t chose just based on the cover. You have to be really focussed on which layout best suits your life.

For me it’s week to view. My brain can’t cope with page-a day, I need to see how the week is shaping up in one glance.

The Busy B Family Diary 2018  has the week on the left and then 4 columns on the opposite page. You can use it to keep your family organised or you can have a column for each part of your life. We’re all multitasking these days. I don’t have 4 kids but I do have a home life, a baking schedule, a blog planner and lots of admin tasks. So 4 columns is my ideal layout. It also has useful pockets, tear out lists, forward planning pages and a slot for your Busy B Page Markers

It’s A5 size and hardbacked so it’ll fit nicely into your handbag and won’t get spoiled. The elastic closer is a small detail but make such a difference if you’re a “big bag” girl like me. I need my diary to stay put and not get crinkled.

And the pen loop in the crowning glory. How often do you get your diary out to scribble something and you can’t find a pen for love nor money.  And the lovely people at Busy can even provide you with matching pens oh what joy!

Some of the page markers to use with your diary

One of the highlights of the evening was the Q&A with Kerri B, the founder and boss lady at Busy B. It was lovely to meet her and hear her talk so openly and honestly about her business journey. It all started with a Christmas card holder designed in her spare bedroom, which eventually turned into the amazing brand that she has created today.

Questions came from the audience as well as live through twitter and facebook. Kerri’s main inspiration for starting the brand is a very simple one, and something that resonates with me 100%.

LISTS. If you are a list girl and can’t get through your day without constantly writing and updating lists – then these products will make you very happy.

I am a great list writer. Sometimes I even add something to my list just so I can cross it off!

If we are all writing lists all day, why shouldn’t they be pretty, and really well designed with clever features.

I use my notebooks and lists together with my diary and it makes an awesome combination.  Also, and here’s a top tip – keep a list pad by your bed (for night-time inspiration), in the car (for ideas that come to you in petrol stations) and by the kitchen phone (for all kinds of messages)

The final part of the “getting organised” set for me is the essential desk pad which comes A3, A5, or keyboard shape. It’s the ideal place to jot down things that suddenly flash into your mind when you’re in the middle of something else.

I was fascinated to see the mood boards showing the design inspiration for their products. The Busy B team works around 10 months ahead so their Spring Summer 2018 range is ready to launch after Christmas and they’re already 2 months into their Autumn Winter 2018 designs. Kerri B is very hands-on and has a talented team who she admits she could not work without. Together their inspiration comes largely from listening to customer feedback, using online surveys and email, as well as fashion and lifestyle trends. Social media has had an enormous impact and massively increased their customer engagement.

If you’re even a little bit addicted to pretty stationery, you’ll love all the oh so clever goodies you can get to help organise every part of your life.

How about a brilliant travel wallet to fill with family passports, tickets and itineraries? I loved using mine on a recent holiday in Tuscany and you can read more about it on the Judith Bond Cakes blog

The large pouch is big enough to take your ipad, diary, phone and even a notebook. I picked one up in Edinburgh and will be using it for meetings and travel. It’s a gorgeous shade of duck egg blue and makes me smile everytime I look at it.

My very favourite pencil case goes everywhere with me, filled with Busy B pens, of course, and I always carry a pen drive and SD card reader in case I get caught short.

There are so many clever things on the website, go and have a browse and if you sign up for the newsletter you can get 10% off your first order.

After all that organising, writing notes and lists, scheduling your day and organising your bits and bobs, you’ll be needing a cupcake and maybe a nice cup of tea.

Our beautiful boxed and branded cupcakes were the perfect take-home treat after the evening. They looked so tempting in their little kraft window boxes with gold embossed labels. Even Kerri was caught on twitter scoffing a cupcake on her way home!

I’d made a few extras for the staff to take back to the office for a Friday treat. Fridays need all the help they can get – don’t you think?

We love working on corporate events, especially sparkly glitzy evenings that involve free gifts and stationery gorgeousness. If you have an event in mind, do get in touch and find out how our cupcakes can get people talking about your business.

Someone asked Kerri B what has been the key to her success. That’s a hard question – to single out one thing that has made all the difference. But Kerri had no trouble with this.

She just smiled and said “determination, I just never gave up”.

Perhaps we don’t all have Kerri’s resilience and deal with our knocks in different ways, but surely these are wise words. Words that we can apply to our businesses, our families and our dreams.

Just keep going – and get yourself organised for the new year with Busy B.

We’d love to hear your comments? How do you get organised? What’s your favourite Busy B product?

Talk soon,

Judith x
