5 things I’ve learned in February

How was your February? Shorter than January, at least. I’m trying to be a bit intentional about looking back as well as forward. We’re very good at planning ahead, galloping through the months, leaving the past behind us. But are we missing a trick? If we don’t look back and take the best from our past, then surely our future is less rich that it could be.

How about taking a little minute to review your February?

The last few weeks might have seemed very mundane but you’ll be surprised what you’ve learning when you look back. So get your diary out and let’s have a flick through.

Here’s my 5 serious and silly things from February –

1 Always have something in the calendar

I do love a countdown. It might be a holiday, a mini break or just a day out with a picnic. It might be date night, or a family dinner. I write it in my diary, count the weeks until we go, and write a countdown in my diary. So if I look in my diary today I’ll see that it’s 25 weeks until our summer holiday. Which is ages. But next week it’ll be 24 weeks. This is especially important during the winter months – don’t you think? When it’s cold and windy every day with no sign of any warmth, you really need those little notes on your calendar to keep you going.

2 Make sure there’s Naked Glory in your freezer

If you’ve made the change to a plant based diet (well done you) but you’re missing those good old fashioned British bangers – I have news. This month I have discovered Naked Glory sausages. And they’re absolutely fab. What a brilliant brand and a great addition to the “Free From” cabinet.

3 Walk. Even when you don’t feel like it.

There are so many reasons to walk. But when you’re all comfy on the sofa you’ll probably think of more reasons to stay exactly where you are. February has taught me to watch the weather forecast and grab those sunny spells with as much enthusiasm as can muster. And there hasn’t been a single time when I’ve regretted grabbing my boots and heading out. Even the days when it was so windy on the beach we got pebbledashed faces and sand in our socks. Just walk.

4 Declutter for your soul

And when it’s really too wet to get outside, it’s the perfect time to tackle that cupboard that has gradually been filling with junk. The one that you’ve been meaning to do for ages but every time you open it – it scares you a little bit – and you quickly slam it shut. Imagine how great you’ll feel when you’ve spent 30 minutes sorting out all the stuff, and make it a fresh useable space. I do love a good clear out – when I’m in the mood.

5 You don’t need all the toilet rolls

If you’ve done the supermarket dash and your bathroom cupboard is overflowing with toilet rolls, good for you. But what happened to “Keep Calm and Carry On”, the great British mantra. As a person prone to worrying about almost everything, I am pleased to say that I have 6 toilet rolls in my cupboard and do not feel the need to add to them until we’re down to 2. There’s enough things in the world to worry about. Running out of toilet roll is not one of them.
